Managing your research outputs at Deakin

Claiming and rejecting publications in Elements

Elements regularly checks a variety of online sources to look for your published outputs. If Elements is certain about your identity as an author on a publication, it automatically claims that publication on your behalf. The publication then appears the next time you visit your Elements or Find An Expert profile.

However, often Elements cannot be certain that the author named on a publication is you. In these cases, it will register the publication as pending in your profile.

Tip

Are you new to Deakin? See Name-based search in Elements to learn about how you can configure Elements to improve its success at identifying your publications.

Reviewing pending publications

You need to go into Elements regularly to view your pending publications and either claim or reject them. You can do this by:

  1. Visiting your Manage Publications page, which you can reach from the Elements homepage.
  2. If you have pending publications, click on Pending in the Publications tile or on the Claim your publications notification under My Actions.

The Manage Publications page will list any pending publications. Outputs in the Pending tab need to be reviewed.

You can perform two actions on these pending outputs:

  • Claim the output as your authored work. These outputs will move from the Pending list to Claimed.
  • Reject the output if you are not the author. Rejected outputs will move to the Rejected list. These outputs will no longer be retrieved by Elements and you will not be prompted to review them again unless you elect to re-claim a rejected publication.

Note

You can either claim or reject each publication individually or select one or more publications via the left-hand checkbox to claim or reject them in batch.

Claiming rejected publications

You can claim a rejected publication by finding it on the Rejected tab on the Manage Publications page and clicking Claim.

Rejecting claimed publications

Elements may incorrectly auto-claim a publication on your behalf. You may also mistakenly claim a publication that is not yours. You can reject a claimed publication on the Claimed tab by selecting the three dots next to a claimed publication and choosing Reject.
