ARC Open Access Policy requirements
The Australian Research Council (ARC) has an open access policy which requires:
- All 'research outputs' should be open access within 12 months of publication.
- A repository record with publication details (title, authors, etc.) must be public within 3 months of publication. The record must include the ARC Project ID.
- If a publication cannot be made open access within 12 months, or at all, an explanation must be provided in the Final Report.
For the purpose of this policy, 'research outputs' include:
- Peer reviewed journal articles
- Peer reviewed conference papers, published in full proceedings
- Books and book chapters
- Other written outputs that have "undergone external review of an equivalent standard to traditional academic review"
Open access is strongly encouraged, but not mandatory, for:
- Research data and associated metadata
The policy applies to all grants awarded since 1 January 2013.
