Find an Expert is a platform accessible to the public and indexed in search engines like Google.
You can control what data in your Elements profile appears in Find an Expert using Elements' privacy settings. There are three privacy levels you can apply:
Public: any data set to Public is visible on Find an Expert
Internal: any data set to Internal is not visible on Find an Expert. Internal data is visible to other Deakin users within Elements
Private: any data set to Private is not visible on Find an Expert. Private data is not visible to other Deakin users within Elements, only to yourself and Elements administrators

There are privacy settings that can be applied to individual fields within your profile. If applied, those fields can only be visible to certain users. This may include co-authors, collaborators, and research administrators, giving you greater flexibility on what is public, internal or private within your profile.

All Deakin staff and graduate researchers have an Elements profile. Whether or not the profile appears in Find an Expert is determined by Elements’ privacy settings. When a profile is set to Public it will be visible. When it’s set to Internal it will only be visible to Deakin staff from within Elements.
The table below highlights the default privacy settings depending on your role at Deakin.
