Keeping your Find an Expert profile updated ensures that your information is accurate and accessible to others. There are key personal details that can and can't be updated in your Find an Expert profile.
Before updating any information in your profile, remember to consult the Content guidelines.

The name that appears in your profile, including formatting, has been imported from either DeakinPeople (for staff) or Callista (for graduate researchers). You may want to change that name for some reason, for example, it may not be your preferred name, or it may not correctly display non-English characters. To address this Elements lets you specify a preferred name.
Specifying a preferred name will override the name that was imported into Elements from DeakinPeople or Callista, changing how it displays throughout Find an Expert and Elements. Your preferred name, but not the original version, will be searchable in Find an Expert.
Changes will not affect how Elements searches for your publications. This is configured by your Elements name-based search settings. See our Managing your research outputs at Deakin guide for more information.
To update your profile with your preferred name, follow these steps:
If there is an error in your name, setting a preferred name in Elements will not correct the error in the source systems. If there is an error, you will need to contact DeakinPeople (for staff) or Callista (for graduate researchers) to have it corrected there.
You can choose to include pronouns on your profile, which will appear on your Deakin Profile page, underneath your name. Follow these steps to add pronouns:
It is important to upload a profile picture so that you’re easily recognisable to internal staff. Use a recent image that meets the criteria set out in the Deakin style guide on Staff headshot photography style.
Your profile picture should be a professional-style photo of you with appropriate background and lighting. If you prefer to take a photo of yourself in the lab or other work setting, just make sure that you’re recognisable from the image.
To upload a photo to your Find an Expert profile follow these steps:
If you don’t have an appropriate photo to use on your profile, you should consider using your LinkedIn profile picture, as long as it meets the Deakin style guidelines. To reuse your LinkedIn photo follow these steps:

Under the Labels section of your Elements profile you can tag your profile with labels from the Fields of Research and research strengths schemes. These will appear on the About Me tab of your Find an Expert profile.
You can also add UN Sustainable Development Goal labels to your profile in Elements, but these do not display anywhere in Find an Expert.
Fields of Research (FoR) labels are derived from the Australian Bureau Of Statistics’ 2020 Australian and New Zealand Standard Research Classifications (ANZSRC). They are used as a filter in Find an Expert search.
For existing staff, up to six FoR labels may have been applied to your profile automatically, via an algorithm that scans your research outputs for the most often applied FoRs. You can manually remove and/or add FoRs labels at any time, as appropriate.
These labels refer specifically to Deakin's research strengths, as determined by data collated by Deakin Research Marketing. There are 215 strengths to choose from in the drop-down menu, and as many as apply can be added to your profile. As with FoRs, research strengths is one of the labels used as a filter in Find an Expert search results.
You can add and remove Fields of Research and research strengths on your profile by following these steps:
