Consistent and Holistic

Knowing about evidence-based practice is one thing, but putting it into action is another.

Evidence-based practice really describes the principles that underpin a particular approach to healthcare. It is most effective when applied consistently and holistically, rather than sporadically and with a transactional focus.

Incorporate evidence-based practice principles into your broader practice by following these tips:

  • Maintain an attitude of lifelong learning by keeping up to date
  • Know and apply the evidence hierarchy in order to increase effectiveness and efficiency
  • Ask questions and conduct searches
  • Record the basis for decisions and audit the outcomes
  • Contribute to research papers, guidelines, or other aspects of the evidence base
