Module 5: Translating search

Running search

You are ready to run your searches when your main search has been translated into other sources of information you planned to look for literature.

Alert

All translated searches should be run on the same day (if possible).

Document searches in each database

Save the translated search into each database where possible. This will allow for rerunning the searches for any additional relevant research immediately prior to publishing the review, and for updating the review in the future.

Steps to save a search from a database

Each database will be different, but these steps are common:

  1. Look for an option to create an account within the database (or log in if you already have an account)
  2. Go to your search results. Look for a ‘Save Searches’ function.
  3. Give your search a meaningful name and description.
  4. Ensure the correct database is chosen if there is more than one option.
  5. Save the search as permanent or as an alert.

Note

If the search is saved as an alert, you will receive emails when any new results are published that match the search.
