Creating a portfolio

What is a portfolio?

Portfolios are a learning process that involves you curating and showcasing your growth as a professional. It’s not just snapshots in time but a story of your developing capabilities through reflection and evaluation.

Why create a portfolio?

A well designed and maintained portfolio showcases your experience and evidences your ability to critically reflect on your own professional practice.

It’s an opportunity to curate your practice!

Your portfolio expands on the limited information you can put in a resume or a job application. Think of it as showcasing your ongoing learning as a professional.

Note

It’s important to remember that your Portfolio is a work in progress that you will continue to revise and update as you gain more experience and capabilities.

What can I put in my portfolio?

Creating a portfolio allows you to demonstrate your knowledge in diverse ways.

Critical reflections

What’s your purpose?

To choose relevant content for your portfolio you need to understand your purpose or goal. Before you start, ask yourself “What do I need this portfolio to do?”

Sometimes a portfolio will have one purpose, but often it’s a combination. If your portfolio has multiple purposes, consider the main reason you’re creating your portfolio to guide what you include.
