Module 3: Protocols

About

What this module covers

This literature review module is focused on developing understanding of a review protocol. It outlines the benefits of creating a protocol for a review used in Health focused research. By exploring the purpose and what is typically included in a review protocol required for different review types, you can make a more informed choice on where to publish or register your review protocol.

Through engaging with the content and activities in this module you will learn how to:

  • Recognise the purpose and benefits of a review protocol
  • Identify information commonly provided in a protocol
  • Locate where to register your protocol

This module will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Key consideration

Before you start your review. Check registries for existing protocols to ensure no similar reviews are underway. This helps avoid unnecessary duplication of research.

You need to have a protocol as a plan to document the reasons for undertaking a review. The protocol should document how you intend to carry out every stage of the review process. A review protocol should be registered or published, to minimise the risk of bias being introduced during the review processes.
