As medical students at Deakin it's useful to be aware of the different ways there are to access resources. This section highlights how to access physical and online resources in the library or outside of the library.
Understanding how to access resources ensures you can retrieve a wide range of medical literature quickly and easily, whether you're on campus or studying remotely.
As a student it is recommended you access online resources through unit sites, Library search, Catalogue, Databases or Resource guides. Accessing online resources through these methods is via your Deakin student credentials. However, there are other ways that you can access online resources.
If you prefer to search the web for online resources such as journal articles, consider installing the web browser extension LibKey Nomad. LibKey Nomad is a browser extension that connects you to journal articles we subscribe to. So you can access journal articles in our collection from the web.
For information on how to install LibKey Nomad check out Connect to journal articles using LibKey Nomad.
Students can search within Google Scholar directly for online resources that we hold. By activating the Library link option for Deakin (e.g FIND IT @ DEAKIN), you can access online resources from our collection through Google Scholar.
For more information explore our webpage Link your Google Scholar account to Deakin Library.
If you come to Waurn Ponds Library and find a resource, you may want to borrow from our physical collections. There are a variety of ways you can borrow, including via self-checkout machines, a mobile app, and service desks. You can even request items not available at Waurn Ponds Library or currently on loan through "click and collect". We also offer a postal delivery service, with free shipping for domestic students and staff.
Check out our webpage Borrowing from our physical collections for further assistance on borrowing, renewing, and returning items.
Unfortunately, our library collection doesn’t hold everything. However, we offer services for students and staff to provide them with physical and online resources from outside of the library when requested.
Check out our webpage Borrow or request items we don’t have for further information.
