Copyright aims to balance the needs of creators and users. Certain publicly beneficial uses of copyright material are permitted through copyright exceptions.
There are a variety of ways in which you can use material protected by copyright without legal risk.
This module explores three kinds of permitted use:
some uses of material are not restricted by copyright,
some uses of material are given an exception in copyright, and
some uses of material are with the permission from the copyright owner.
Always remember that you will lose copyright protection if you access that content by infringing copyright. For example, Game of Thrones was widely copied in breach of copyright. Any review videos using footage from an infringing copy of Game of Thrones could be liable for copyright infringement.
Ignorance is no defence. If you unintentionally breach copyright you are still responsible for your actions.
