Welcome to Designing your Deakin Exhibit – the guide for our online exhibition platform. This guide provides step-by-step instructions to assist you in planning and creating your exhibit.
Deakin Exhibit is a visual platform that allows researchers to showcase their work to the public. It is well suited to small collections that include images, videos, audio recordings and textual documents.
Deakin Exhibit uses Omeka S, an open-source software widely used in museums, galleries, and libraries worldwide.
Ideal uses for Deakin Exhibit include digital humanities, special collections, and science communication.
Explore the exhibits below for an idea of what can be achieved using the platform.
This guide will walk you through the steps involved in creating an exhibit:
1. Plan your exhibit
2. Submit a proposal
3. Access your site
4. Add items
5. Add pages
6. Organise site navigation
7. Publish your exhibit
Throughout the guide, you’ll find prompts to help you plan and build your exhibit. By the end, you’ll have a basic exhibit ready to be published.
If you’ve got an idea you’d like to talk through, please email the Deakin Exhibit team and we can discuss whether Deakin Exhibit would be suitable for you. It might be worthwhile doing this before completing a comprehensive plan and submitting a formal proposal.
At the proposal stage, the Deakin Exhibit Working Group will discuss your submission and be in contact.
